OMG….can it really be day thirteen??? We arrived here on day eight…..que pasa? I am really not sure I can bring myself to write an update today…..this has gone way past “Groundhog Day” and is now deep into “Dante’s nine circles of hell”!
To alleviate the pressure on you dear reader and to give myself some potential respite from purgatory I now gladly give you “Signor Tarrant”….
Hey everyone, Mr T with todays update. So yes, here we are again, still in Sanguesa and still waiting for the magical, mystical (and quite possibly mythical!) courier to arrive with the essential spare part for Nick's bike, so we can then continue on our epic journey. Honestly if I hear the word “manana” one more time I swear……!
We appear to have become something of a local phenomenon and we have made many new acquaintances in the town. Every day Signor Bike Fix, Signor Camp Site, Señoras Courier Company, Señora Breakfast, Señora Supermarket, Señora Pasta for Dinner and Signor taking his Chihuahua for a walk at 730 in the morning all ask how we are doing today and whether we are any closer to leaving. I guess we do stand out a little from the native population, and we receive several nods of “Ola” and “Buenos dias” every day and we clearly see furtive communications between other locals, all of whom have become used to seeing us wandering up and down the main street, in search of food, beers and those damn elusive bike spare parts.
The signora at our favourite breakfast haunt not only now just delivers our coffee and croissant without us actually ordering anything but she has now taken to calling us her “Los Chicos”. We think this means “her boys” which is both comforting and a little unsettling in equal measure. All being well, and by God we need some “well” right now, the said spare part should arrive in the morning we can then get Nick's bike back functioning and w ewill be on our way again.
That brings mixed emotions to be honest ….I cannot wait to get on the road again and to be somewhere new with some pedalling in between, but Sanguesa has been really good to us...decent food, decent company and hopefully (still TBC) a decent cycle fixing man.
We have washed all our clothes (in some cases twice) charged all our phones/battery packs, and planned and re-planned for just about every conceivable eventuality. We just need Nick's bike to finally be fixed by Signor Bike man, tomorrow then we can be on our way.
In many ways being stuck here for eleventy billion days (or whatever it is!) is almost as much a challenge as it is to cycle 90 miles a days. Please do keep donating if you are feeling our pain or TBH even if you are not….it’s an amazing cause regardless.
