What, why and when. Mostly why?

On 21 May 2016 myself, Marc Tarrant and Dan Hastie will set off from Lands End on the 1000 mile cycle journey to John O Groats. The plan, although perhaps “hope” is a better word than “plan”, is to arrive in John O Groats two weeks later on Saturday 4 June. If we make it will have averaged about 65 miles a day and climbed over 64,000 feet…..that sounds like a lot to us. We have also, for reasons I still don’t fully understand, decided that we should camp most if not all of the way. Whilst for some this may not seem especially relevant it is really important to note that I do not do camping!

I am planning / hoping to use this blog as a way of recording our progress each day so you can you keep track of how we are getting on get on. It will also stand as a useful reminder for the three of us when we look back on our adventure and, I hope (that word again!), help us to answer the one question which I am asking myself more and more frequently the closer we get to 21 May 2o16…..”Why on earth are we doing this?”

Ok, first post out of the way, the technology and my typing both seem to work (of a fashion). Just to remind you that as well as riding a 1000 miles for the fun of it (fun?) we are trying to raise as much money as we can for Winston’s Wish.

Don’t forget to help us support Winston’s Wish by visiting our Just Giving pages and donating whatever you can https://www.justgiving.com/Nick-White21…..every penny really will make a difference. Thank you.

Next post on “Day Zero”, Friday 20 May.
